Public Speaking & Teaching

A passionate advocate for arts and learning, Amy Moorefield has given a variety of lectures, talks, and docent trainings about art, visual literacy, museums and community. Additionally as a believer in investing in future generations of museum leaders, Moorefield has taught museology and curatorial courses at the university level.

Public Speaking and Educational Initiatives:

2018-present: Creation of leadership/teambuilding workshops utilizing the Phillips Museum collections for the college community and outside groups including schools and executive leadership programs.
2018-present: Development and implementation of Phillips Museum programs including new collection tours, workshops, and classes.
2018: Creation of a museum F&M student worker corps including training and mentorship with over 25 student employees.
2013: Panelist for Roanoke Times and Cox Communication “Arts and the Economy” Panel,
2012: The Status of the Roanoke Art Commission” for Roanoke City Council. 2012.
2011: “From These Hills” Keynote lecture for William King Museum exhibition, “From these Hills”
2011. Invited speaker for National Conference and TED affiliated talk at Cityworks Xpo,
“Playing Nice in the Sandbox: Museum Collaborations,” Roanoke, Virginia
2010-2017: Partnered with the City and the County of Roanoke Arts Coordinators and Art Teachers to provide exhibition and educational opportunities to K-12 and home school students and certificate enrichment programs for teachers.
2008-present: Presented over 150 lectures for curated exhibitions to a wide variety of constituencies and large sized audiences.
2005: Co-Chair of CAA 2005 Conference Session: “Can’t Live With Them, Can’t Live Without Them: Innovative Approaches to Student and Faculty Exhibitions.”
